Translators and interpreters are proficient bilinguals with a love of language. Those with a background in international relations have a deep understanding of the forces that not only influence relations, but also communications, between the major players in the international system. Specialists with skills in both international relations and translating and interpreting are highly valued across the globe. This course will provide you with the skills and knowledge you'll need to perform as a competent professional translator and interpreter in a range of institutional settings common to community and commercial translating and interpreting practice in Australia and overseas, while also equipping you with the skills to mediate internationally in a variety of settings. KEY FEATURES You'll acquire theoretical knowledge alongside the practical skills relevant to translating and interpreting practice. You'll undertake extensive targeted practice in both translation and interpreting, as well as specialisations in both fields. Computer-assisted translation tools embedded across this course will prepare you for the fast-changing marketplace. Practicum projects you'll undertake with our industry partners will allow you to work directly with clients in a variety of settings. CERTIFICATION The program is a NAATI (National Accreditation Authority for Translators and Interpreters) approved course for certification at professional and advanced translator and interpreter's level. This will prepare students for the NAATI certification testing. For detailed information on languages that are approved for certification or any other inquiries, please email translate@mq.edu.au SUITABLE FOR Suitable if you have an excellent knowledge of two languages: English and either Chinese (Mandarin), Japanese, Korean or another language supported at Macquarie University in the Translation and Interpreting programs, and if you wish to acquire professional translation and interpreting skills and an in-depth understanding of international affairs. Please note our working languages for practical units are Chinese (Mandarin), Korean, Japanese, Spanish, and other languages depending on demand.
