Poverty, inequality and disease don't respect boundaries, and so the health and welfare of all people is critical to our survival as a species. In our increasingly interdependent world, issues such as economic and social development, poverty mitigation and environmental sustainability therefore demand a global approach. This innovative and applied cross-disciplinary course with its focus on development theory and practice, global health challenges and the intersections between these fields will provide you with the knowledge and skills to make a positive and lasting difference in the world. KEY FEATURES This course brings together expertise from the Departments of Anthropology and Human Geography, as well as other disciplines. Depending on your interests, you can choose to specialise in Development Studies, Environment or Global Health. You'll develop culturally relevant and professional leadership skills to work collaboratively to set priorities, identify issues and address practical problems within a variety of contexts. You'll have an opportunity to undertake a supervised research project which will allow you to gain valuable hands-on experience in ethnographic or social impact assessment methodologies on a topic of your choosing. In the development and global health fields, employment opportunities increase for those who possess a graduate degree and field experience, and have a region and topic of focus. This course is designed to meet these specific requirements. SUITABLE FOR Those coming from a variety of academic and professional backgrounds. For example, graduates from the social sciences, behavioural or health science with some social science background; or those with work experience as a development professional, social worker or health professional.
