About Southern Cross University

Bold, progressive, and celebrating 25 years in 2019, Southern Cross University is one of the Asia-Pacific’s Top 100 Universities and one of the world’s Top 50 Generation Y Universities. Our contemporary campuses, with purpose-built, state-of-the-art facilities, are located on the east coast of Australia, at the Gold Coast in Queensland, and in Lismore and Coffs Harbour in New South Wales. Branch campuses in Sydney, Melbourne and Perth are operated in collaboration with EduCo on behalf of Southern Cross University. The University also operates The Hotel School Sydney and Melbourne in partnership with Mulpha Australia. We also deliver degrees with collaborators in China and Papua New Guinea.We have a large and diverse range of courses available online, offering interactive and immersive learning experiences, wherever our students are.

The University has a strong focus on industry and community collaboration to produce engaged teaching and research outcomes. The University is home to nine research centres.In the latest Excellence in Research for Australia report, Southern Cross achieved outstanding ratings of ‘at world standard’ or above in 24 research fields. In nine research fields the University was evaluated at the highest possible classification of ‘well above world standard’. This was achieved in the fields of Geochemistry, Oceanography, Environmental Science and Management, Zoology, Agricultural and Veterinary Sciences, Crop and Pasture Production, Forestry Sciences, Nursing, Complementary and Alternative Medicine.

  The early 1990s was an exciting time for Southern Cross University as it evolved from what was a Teachers College, in the 1970s, into a fully-fledged University with its own identity in 1994. This site has been developed to showcase stories, historical information and personal recollections of the University’s development. It includes a condensed Brief History of SCU from Teachers College (pre-1994) to University.
• Centre for Teaching and Learning
  Southern Cross University is committed to providing educational opportunities for our diverse student body, in particular those from rural and regional communities. We aim to deliver inspirational teaching, innovative research and high quality and dynamic learning experiences to equip our students to be tomorrow’s leaders, to live a life they value and be effective global citizens.We work side by side with academic staff and students to implement the University’s strategic directions through three teams of staff:
• Educational Collaborations
  Southern Cross University, through collaborations with other education providers, offers courses in other Australian locations, Asia and the Pacific. All students enrolled in a Southern Cross University course at one of our educational collaborations or partnerships are subject to the University’s rules and regulations. Students are taught by Southern Cross University teaching staff or University approved academic staff from our educational collaborations or partner. All assessment and examinations are set and quality assured by the University.
