Lead the revolution in life-saving medical technology. The Bachelor of Engineering Honours (Biomedical) develops a comprehensive knowledge of all aspects of biomedical engineering. By combining multidisciplinary learning with collaborative projects and industry experience, you will develop the knowledge and experiences to launch your career in this rapidly growing branch of engineering.
As a biomedical engineering student, you will learn from and collaborate with leading researchers across many disciplines. You will learn a combination of electronic, mechanical and materials engineering alongside knowledge in medicine, biology and molecular biology.
The degree covers all aspects of biomedical engineering, and you could contribute to innovative discoveries within the fields of:
the computational simulation of biomedical systems.
Throughout this four-year degree you can specialise in a wide range of biomedical engineering electives, across the spectrum of advanced biomedical computing to e-medicine, biomechatronics, neuromodulation, advanced bioelectronics, biotechnology, biophysics, membrane science and biomedical product development.
You will complete a thesis in your fourth year. It involves designing, manufacturing and demonstrating an innovative biomedical engineering system, in collaboration with industry specialists and hospitals. A 12-week internship will give you invaluable first-hand experience within the biomedical field.
With wide-ranging career options from becoming an instrumentation engineer or medical device assessor, to designing and manufacturing implantable and external medical devices biomedical engineering will enable you to make a real and lasting contribution to medicine and healthcare.
Biomedical engineers work with doctors and medical scientists, researching and designing ways to improve health care and medical services. They may be involved in the development of medical products and different types of equipment used to monitor and treat patients, and in designing and improving equipment for disabled people.
Many Biomedical Engineering students have gone on to do Graduate Medicine at the University of Sydney.
