About Charles Sturt University

We believe wisdom transforms communities. With tenacity, we help to shape resilient, sustainable regions for the future. Acknowledging the culture and insight of Indigenous Australians, our ethos is clearly described by the Wiradjuri phrase, yindyamarra winhanganha, meaning the wisdom of respectfully knowing how to live well in a world worth living in.

  • Our History
Whilst we’ve been a university for more than 20 years, our history of professional education and research spans more than 100 years. This started with the establishment of the Bathurst Experimental Farm in 1895.
  • Our Future
We continue to work towards the public good. We are focused on developing individuals who help their communities grow and flourish.
  • Our Ethos
The Wiradjuri phrase yindyamarra winhanganha means the wisdom of respectfully knowing how to live well in a world worth living in.This phrase represents who we are at CSU – our ethos. It comes from traditional Indigenous Australian knowledge but it also speaks to the mission of a university – to develop and spread wisdom to make the world a better place. Our university narrative expands on this by confirming “we are a university of the land and people of our regions and we aim to develop holistic, far-sighted people who help their communities grow and flourish”.
  • Construction and Other Projects
Our campuses are continually evolving. This includes the planning, design and construction of new buildings, and improvements to our existing facilities.
  • Our Vision and Values
Our mission is to build skills and knowledge in our regions. We offer choice and flexibility to students and work hand-in-hand with our industries and communities in teaching, research and engagement. Growing from our historical roots, we share our knowledge and expertise as a significant regional export industry and we bring strength and learning from this back to our regions.Through our values, we create a welcoming community experience and learning environment that supports innovative research, advances society and gives back to our regions.
  • Our University
We are a university of the land and people of our regions.
